A lot of the events for which the authors were booked were postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We hope our readers are all safe, please stay healthy! Upcoming events in 2021


    • 21 April 2021 – 14:00-15:15 CET (12 noon-1:15 pm UTC) [webinar] Han and Antonia will host the fifth webinar in the Hagerbach NXT50 series, this time focussing on 'Planning for Sustainable Underground Spaces'. More information and details on how to register can be found by clicking on the data above.
    • 16 June 2021 Hagerbach NXT50 Festival [more soon] Han and Antonia will take part in the celebration of 50 years Hagerbach Test Gallery. During the festival, they will look forward to the next 50 years as part of the Mission Earth First initiative.
    • 6-8 September 2021 AFTES Congress Paris, France. Han and Antonia will be presenting their paper 'A Multi-Dimensional Planning Approach (MDPA) - Towards a New Rationale to Planning And Visualising Underground Spaces as Part of the Urban Metabolism'.
    • 12 October 2021 [to be confirmed] ITA Global Forum on Underground Space (IGFUS), China. Han and Antonia will take part in the first-ever Global Underground Space Forum which ITACUS will be organising together with partners.

     

    Recent events in 2021 and 2020

    • 26-27 March 2021 [webinar] Han and Antonia presented at IFUS, the 8th China (Shanghai) Conference on Infrastructure development of Underground Space 2021 as part of World Cities Day.
    • 11 March 2021 [webinar[ Antonia gave a presentation on 'Perspectives on Underground Space: Past, Present, Future' for the Brazilian Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (CBT). You watch a recording of  the webinar here.
    • 4 March 2021 [webinar] Antonia took part in an after-work talk 'I DO IT MY WAY' organised by the Gender & Diversity Commission of D-BAUG ETH Zürich to celebrate World Engineering Day 2021.
    • 3 March 2021 [webinar] Han co-hosted an webinar on 'Demonstrating Underground Spaces' as part of the Mission Earth First initiative. Antonia was part of a virtual tour of the Hagerbach facility as part of the webinar. You can watch a recording of the webinar here.
    • 3 February 2021 [webinar] Han and Antonia joined an online round table to round off the ISOCARP congress. They discussed how underground space can contribute to post-Oil cities. More information on their publication in the ISOCARP Review 16 can be found here.
    • 3 February 2021 [webinar] ITACUS held a special session during the virtual ACUUS 17 World Conference. The session "Planning for sustainable underground spaces" was hosted by Han and Antonia and featured the activity groups of ITACUS on Urban Integration (Dr. Marilu Melo in dialogue with Shana Debrock (Flanders Spatial Planning Dept.) and Loretta von der Tann (NGI); Underground Space Sustainability (Dr. Chrysothemis Parasevopolou), and Young Professional Think Deep Program (Petr Salak and Rosanne Verloop).
    • 16 December 2020 [webinar] 'Innovating for Underground Space'. The third webinar in the HAGERBACH NXT 50: INNOVATION, INSPIRATION, and DEMONSTRATION of UNDERGROUND SPACES series of webinars.
    • 17 November 2020 [webinar] Digitaler Untergrund/Digital Underground. Antonia gave a presentation on 'The City below the City – Urban Planning of the Future'. Organized by SOGI, the Swiss Network for Geo-information.
    • 18 November 2020 [webinar in Dutch] Ondergronds Ruimtegebruik in Vlaanderen. Praktijk en planning van ondergronds ruimtegebruik. Han gave a presentation on the need for planning underground space. 
    • 11 November 2020 Webinar 'Moving Beyond the Obvious'. The second webinar in the HAGERBACH NXT 50: INNOVATION, INSPIRATION, and DEMONSTRATION of UNDERGROUND SPACES series of webinars.
    • 29 September 2020 [webinar] ICE HKA Annual Conference 2020: Antonia presented on "Future-proofing our infrastructure and contributing to smart and sustainable cities."

    54th ISOCARP Congress

    The authors attended the International Society of City and Regional Planners‘ (ISOCARP) congress on 'Cool Planning'. They were thrilled to be awarded the 'Gerd Albers Award 2018 for Best Book' during this congress.

    The Institution of Civil Engineers hosted a special conference in October 2018 to celebrate 200 years of ICE. The authors will presented on inclusive planning of underground spaces on Thursday 25 October 2018.

    The Associated Research Centres for the Urban Underground Space (ACUUS) organised their 16th World Conference in Hong Kong. The authors were invited to give a book presentation on Wednesday 7 November 2018.
